Metrosexuals

Porcelain painting, 2019

The work has been drawn on the ceramic tiles of the Paris Underground. It tells about the underground journey of two homosexual Muslim men, during which they consider their relationship towards their religion and their sexuality. The actual story, the journey in Paris from Barbés to Marais, is fictive, but the dialogue is based on true discussions. The Islamic theology prohibits homosexuality, but it does not solely define the concepts of sexuality. They are also influenced by local traditions and religious interpretations, which are always personal opinions. Initiatives have been made for more tolerant Islam, but they are yet to gain wider scale support.
